Barkley hails new man Jorginho’s impact at the club

Chelsea star Ross Barkley has hailed the impact that new signing Jorginho has made to the team, following the Blues’ 3-0 victory over Huddersfield on their opening Premier League fixture.

Jorginho scored a penalty during the game, his first goal on his first game for the club. But it wasn’t just the goal that stood out for the Italian, with his performance in the middle of the park proving to be an integral part of the victory.

And Barkley, who played alongside the £56m signing on Saturday, praised the way that his new partner performed on his debut for the Blues.

“He’s pivotal to the way we play,” Barkley said via the official Chelsea website.

“He’s a real top-quality player, he gets on the ball, gets us playing and against Huddersfield you could see that’s the way it’s going to be this season.”

Barkley has endured a tough time at Stamford Bridge since his move from Everton. He struggled for game time under former manager Antonio Conte, and there were even rumours about him potentially leaving the club during this summer’s transfer window.

However, new boss Sarri has given Barkley the chance to prove himself this season, and the England international wants to do exactly that.

“There’s a lot of competition at top sides like us so my focus is just to do what I can on the pitch and help the team win games,” he added.
