Barcelona Win Neymar Chase As Chelsea Lose Out

Brazil international, Neymar is considered as one of the most sensational upcoming stars for the future and is already being considered in the bracket of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. He will be one of the biggest names and one under a constant spotlight in the World Cup next year to be held in his native country.

Currently playing for Brazilian club Santos, his big money move to Europe was certainly expected in the coming years, however that time has already come as Spanish heavyweights Barcelona have announced that they have reached an agreement with Santos over the transfer of their prodigal star, and that he will sign the final paperwork very soon.

According to ESPN, Neymar said “I’m sad to be leaving Santos, but it’s a great honour to be signing with a club like Barcelona and to be able to play with some of the best players in the world.”

Neymar also posted on his Twitter account, “Here it ends this wonderful passage with a special club. Thank you for everything. I’ll keep these moments with me my entire life.”

This news is set to break Chelsea’s heart, who have been known as long-term admirers and who were desperate to sign the mercurial striker. Owner Roman Abramovic regarded the 21-year old very highly and was ready to shell out huge amounts of money for Neymar.

However it will not be the case now as they, along with Real Madrid and even Manchester City have all lost out to Barcelona for the young hotshot. It is believed that a fee of roughly $36 million was sufficient to convince Santos to part with the player, who has been at the club since he was 11 years old.

Chelsea’s dream of signing Neymar has ultimately remained a dream. With their prime target slipped out of their hands, where will Chelsea look next? Who will incoming manager Jose Mourinho pursue now?
