Barcelona are mulling over a bid for Torres to add further firepower to their already glittering attack force currently consisting of Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, Cesc Fabregas and now Neymar too. However, the Blaugrana are readying themselves for the loss of David Villa over the summer, and with rumors surrounding Alexis Sanchez’s future still lingering, they are not quite sure about the duo’s future at the club.
As a result, they are looking at reinforcements beforehand to insulate themselves against a loss of players right at the business end of the Transfer window. The DailyMail reports that the 28-year old is being considered by the Barcelona hierarchy, who could possibly prepare a £19 million bid for him.
Chelsea will not be too pleased with the offer though, having broken the British transfer record for securing his services for a massive £50 million two and a half years ago, only to be presented with an offer comparatively as low as £19 million. However, it might still be seen as good business, given the fact that he is nearing his 30s and earning that amount of money for a striker who has just managed to reach the 20-goal mark twice in his last five seasons could be a smart financial decision.
Torres is also set to meet with new manager Jose Mourinho, who has returned to Stamford Bridge only recently, and discuss Mourinho’s plans for Torres for the upcoming season. It is quite possible that Torres would be deemed surplus to requirements, given Chelsea’s relentless chase of Napoli’s Edinson Cavani and Brazilian international Hulk. If they manage to secure both players it could very much bring the curtains down on Torres’ Chelsea career.
Barcelona, on the other hand, are eyeing him up to strengthen their bench which has not been the strongest at times last season. They are making a bid for him with a view of using him as an impact super sub and to provide suitable backing to the first-team.
