Bad Luck Hands Chelsea Another Loss

It was a disappointing game for Chelsea who suffered from some bad luck in the first half as their seemingly good goal was disallowed and then they seemed to lose their composure slightly. Willian was the player to stand out on the positive side really, with Matic being the exact opposite. The Serbian was sent off right before half-time, leaving Chelsea to struggle against a much more well balanced and focused West Ham squad who seem to deserve their spot in the top 4.

Cahill was probably the best on the pitch next to Willian. The defender was the only one who talked to the press after the game as the Express reported. His words were the words of a player who is part of a squad that lost their sense of direction: “[The mood in the dressing room] is not great – like you’d imagine when you lose games. Last season we weren’t used to it. The lads are devastated,” Cahill said. “You’re left scratching your head sometimes. In the first half the Cesc Fabregas goal could have been given and we had the goal that was nearly over the line. That sums up the way we’re going.”

The atmosphere at Stamford Bridge is really worrying with no one looking like they know what to do to get out of this very unpleasant situation. Mourinho is clearly pushed to the limit as seen against West Ham. Seeing him in the stands was a frustrating image that unfortunately seems to fit the whole team at the moment. Hopefully the players were right in saying that Mourinho is the only one who can get the team over this hurdle and the Special One will start working his magic soon. It would be a pity to see the Chelsea project he is clearly so fond of, suffer through a bad season. On the plus side there are still 3 trophies to contend for even if the Premier League seems to be slipping out of the Blues’ grasp.
