Ba Wants Torres Link Up

Demba Ba has suggested that he would relish the chance to partner up front with Fernando Torres, subject to the opinions of the new manager coming into Chelsea.

The Blues are currently in the United States of America, on a post-season tour, where they played twice against Barclays Premier League rivals Manchester City. Having lost both these matches, Chelsea are not ending the season on a confident note, but will surely motivate owner Roman Abramovich to spend big in the summer.

Ba made a move from Newcastle United in the winter window, and has not failed to impress the Stamford Bridge faithful with his talent. However, the Senegalese has not been able to establish a spot in the starting eleven at the club.

Jose Mourinho’s imminent arrival at the Bridge may change the lie of things for Ba. Abramovich is ready to spend big this summer, with rumors of players like Radamel Falcao arriving at the club. This would mean Ba may have to settle with bit-part football, unless Mourinho particularly likes the combination of both players playing together.

Ba likes to drop deep from the attack to receive the ball, but Torres is a dribbler who has bursts of pace throughout the game. Rumors also suggest Torres may be approached by Atletico Madrid for a summer move.

According to SkySports, Ba does not believe that Torres is his enemy, and appreciates the mutual learning process with both strikers.

Ba said, “We could do. He (Torres) is a good man.”

“We will have to see the view of the manager who is going to come in. We will have to see what he will bring to the team and if he can play two strikers, how he wants it.”

“But we are not rivals, no chance. You learn a lot from having competition with players like this – it’s good for me. I’m getting better and better.”

It will be interesting to see which strikers are brought in by the new contingent of coaching staff. Also, the return of Romelu Lukaku from West Bromwich Albion will be a blessing for the club, with the Belgian doing well in the season-long loan spell. The nature of the new arrivals may determine the fate of Ba and Torres at the club.
