Ba First Out Of The Bridge?

Ba First Out Of The Bridge?

Demba Ba looks like the first player to be sacrificed by Chelsea, as they look to accommodate the signings made by incoming manager Jose Mourinho, who intends on signing high profile players during this transfer window.

Mourinho has joined a mega project at Chelsea, and with the backing of cash-rich owner Roman Abramovich, intends to buy some of the best players in the world this summer. With in-demand attacking youngster Eden Hazard already in their side, Abramovich should not have a difficult task to convince new players about the club’s ambitions.

Abramovich has also been motivated by the club winning consecutive European crowns, with interim boss Rafa Benitez winning the UEFA Europa League this time around. Also, with the side nearly finishing in second place in the Barclays Premier League, the squad seem to have the confidence to challenge the top clubs of the league. With Manchester United and Manchester City looking to strengthen their squads this summer, it is important that Chelsea do the same to be on par.

However, Abramovich and Mourinho will be well aware of the newly introduced UEFA Financial Fair Play rules, which mean clubs all over Europe must balance their books to be eligible for European competitions. This means that while Chelsea can bring in players, they will have to move some players out of the club to reduce the wage bill.

With the club already in talks with Napoli over a possible deal for Edinson Cavani, the striking department is the most likely to be sacrificed. Ba, who recently joined the club in a £7 million deal from Newcastle United, does not seem to be in Mourinho’s plans for next season, especially with Fernando Torres, Romelu Lukaku and Victor Moses all having shown potential to perform at the highest level.

Ba’s style of play could be a concern for Mourinho, as the Senegalese likes to hold up the ball, while he may not be suited for fast attacking football as the club like to play with their collection of skillful players. Also, Torres may need Mourinho’s man-management skills to show the world his quality, which was seen at Liverpool.

There have also been rumors of Ba rejoining Newcastle in case he is told to leave the club this summer.
