According to the Daily Mail, Thibaut Courtois has accused the media of spreading false rumors about a potential move to Real Madrid, before his loan club Atletico Madrid defeated AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League.

Courtois has been vital to Atletico’s progress in all competitions this season, and remains a part of Chelsea’s plans in the future. The Belgian international keeper is playing his third consecutive year-long loan spell at Atletico, and has seen the side improve each year. Diego Simeone took charge of proceedings at the club in 2011, and brought in Courtois on loan. Since then, the club have had a 64% win rate, which has a lot to do with the goalkeeper’s contribution.

Atletico and Real are arch rivals, and Courtois has claimed that the press used a rumor to try to destabilize proceedings at his loan club. Madrid’s interest in the goalkeeper could be genuine, as 32-year old Diego Lopez is the current number. The 21-year old Courtois could be the perfect long term solution in the summer, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho may want to keep the shot stopper, even if it means selling Petr Cech.
