Atsu Loan To Everton Breaks Down Over Playing Concern

New Chelsea signing Christian Atsu’s attempts to secure a loan move to Everton have failed after the Blues have cancelled the deal on doubts about the playing time offered by Roberto Martinez to the Ghanian international, as reported by Metro.

Atsu was another foreign signing on Chelsea’s books, and the current count of foreign players for next season is 18, one player more than the regulatory allowance. The 22-year old will most certainly be sent on loan before the end of August, especially with the arrival of Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas at the club. Nemanja Matic, Eden Hazard and Oscar could be regulars in Jose Mourinho’s lineup, leaving no space for Atsu to feature through the season.

Romelu Lukaku was another former Chelsea player sent on loan last season to Everton, and the deal was beneficial for both the Toffees and the Belgian striker. Roberto Martinez is now a renowned manager to nurture the talent of inexperienced players, and Atsu’s short club career presents the perfect scenario for Martinez to impact the winger’s career.

However, Chelsea are looking to add a clause where they have an option to call the player back in January if he has not been given enough playing time at the club. Everton are not keen on the clause, as it could see them devoid of resources come January hence the deal breaking down.
