Atletico Loss Final Nail In Mourinho’s Real Madrid Coffin?

On Friday night in the Copa Del Rey final, Atletico Madrid beat their arch rivals in the form of Real Madrid 2-1. The match was indicative of Real’s season, as they were clearly the better side, creating numerous chances and hitting the woodwork 3 times but could not make their superiority count. The match went into extra time and Atletico nicked the winner despite Real’s dominance.

This result must surely be yet another factor that contributes to the now almost definite reappointment of Jose Mourninho as Chelsea boss. Mourinho was sent to the stands in the first half of the match and his star player Cristiano Ronaldo was shown a red card for a supposed terrible foul that never was in the second half of the extra time period. This showed the injustice of some of the decisions from the match on the night and the pitiful play-acting that so often blights the game in Europe

The loss by Real was their first to cross-town rivals Atletico since 1999 and Mourinho will not have been pleased that this happened on his watch. He usually has good things for fans to remember his spell in charge of a club by. In fairness, at Real Madrid, Mourinho won the Copa Del Rey in his first year in charge and came second in the League; in his second year in charge he directed Real to the La Liga title; and this year he steered his side to the semi-finals of the Champions League, second place in La Liga and the final of the Copa Del Rey but for the first time in his managerial career he has not won a trophy.

The loss in the Copa Del Rey to Atletico has now surely sealed his departure from Real Madrid and thus made his reappointment at Chelsea just a matter of time. We can’t wait to be writing about Jose Mourinho, Chelsea manager, and covering Chelsea Football Club as they reassert their dominance in world football.
