Atletico Keen On Snatching World Cup Hero From Chelsea

Atletico Madrid are keen on signing Germany’s World Cup hero Andre Schurrle from Chelsea, and are tempting him with the prospect of regular football at the home of the Spanish league champions, according to talkSPORT.

Diego Simeone is coming to terms with the top quality signings made by Real Madrid and Barcelona, and is aware that defending their title will not be easy in the coming season. However, along with signings like Mario Mandzukic, Antoine Griezmann and more, Simeone wants to bring another player who can rotate between the striker and winger’s position.

Schurrle was one of the first signings made by Jose Mourinho after returning to Chelsea as manager before last season. The 23-year old’s natural position is that of a central forward, but the player did not find form in front of goal last season, as he scored just 9 goals in 43 appearances in all competitions. He did, however, find his goal-scoring touch in Brazil where he was the impact substitute of the tournament.

After signing Didier Drogba and Diego Costa this summer, Schurrle’s position in the starting lineup remains uncertain. However, even though he may not find a place in Mourinho’s starting eleven, Simeone can assure the player of a regular starting spot at the Vicente Calderon. Chelsea also must sell one foreign player to cater to the Premier League rules, and Schurrle could be the one to make way. However, to help comply with the financial fair play rules, Chelsea will demand a big fee.
