Arsenal legend not convinced by Chelsea star

Premier League legend Ian Wright says he is unsure over Chelsea midfielder Timeoue Bakayoko and whether he is good enough to play ahead of the likes of Pedro and Willian.

The French midfielder signed in the summer from Monaco and has had a decent start to proceedings thus far. He does have his critics though, and Wright is among a fair few who see potential long term, but not necessarily short term.

Bakayoko has scored one goal and has made two assists in the nine appearances he has made in the Premier League for Chelsea so far. However, he has played in a more advanced role in recent times, keeping forwards such as Pedro out the team – much to the surprise of the former England and Arsenal striker, who has urged Conte to forget about using the star in an advanced midfield role.

“Just a quick one on Bakayoko, because I have to get it out otherwise I’ll forget,” Wright said on BBC Radio 5 Live.

“I’m not having him yet, I’m sorry.

“I can’t understand how he can get in the team before Willian and Pedro at the moment.

“Especially when he played further forward.

“I need to see a lot more from him, that’s all I’m saying.”

Bakayoko does look like a player with a lot of potential, but perhaps Wright has a point about him playing in an advanced role.
