Antonio Rudiger sends message to Manchester City ahead of Community Shield clash

Antonio Rudiger says Chelsea will be ‘ready’ for Manchester City when the two sides meet in the Community Shield on Sunday.

The Germany international, who was part of Joachim Lowe’s World Cup squad that crashed out at the group stages in Russia, was on target was Chelsea drew 1-1 with Arsenal in their final game of pre-season yesterday afternoon.

The 25-year-old gave Maurizio Sarri’s side the lead in Dublin after just five minutes with a thumping header from Cesc Fabregas’ corner.

The Blues held their lead until stoppage time in the second half, but were denied victory at the last thanks to a last gasp Alexandre Lacazette goal – the Frenchman slotting home from Reiss Nelson’s driven cross.

The Gunners then went on to win the tie 6-5 on penalties, with Alex Iwobi slotting the winning spot-kick at the Aviva Stadium.

Chelsea next take on Manchester City on Sunday in the Community Sheild at Wembley, and despite not getting the result they would have hoped for in their final pre-season game before the clash, Rudiger says the Blues are more than ready to take on the Premier League champions this weekend.

The German tweeted: “Not the result we wanted but we gonna be ready for the Community Shield #Hustle #AlwaysBelieve #ArsenalChelsea”.

Manchester City ended their pre-season with an impressive 3-2 victory over Bayern Munich last week, thanks to goals from Bernardo Silva (2) and youngster Lukas Nmecha.
