Alaba Responds To Talk Linking Him With £60m Move To Chelsea

Bayern Munich left-back David Alaba has said he is not aware of any interest from Chelsea. The Austrian international was linked with a £60m move to Stamford Bridge earlier this week, but the defender says he is completely focused on playing for his current club. He was quoted by Heute as saying:

“I haven’t noticed anything. For me, the focus is entirely on Bayern Munich. I also have my goals here. We want to be at the top [by the] summer. And I want to do my part.”

Alaba’s current contract expires in just under eighteen months time, leading to speculation that he may choose to leave the Allianz Arena. Asked about how discussions over a new deal were progressing, he replied that talks may happen after Euro 2020:

“After the season, the European Championship is coming and I am not worrying about it at all. The talks will develop in the near future.”

Alaba is certainly not completely ruling out a move away from Bayern, which will give Chelsea hope if they are pursuing the 27-year-old.

Blues boss Frank Lampard is believed to be unhappy with his current options at left-back, with Cesar Azpilicueta having occasionally played in the position this season despite both Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri being available.
