Agent Confirms Chelsea Failed In Attempt To Sign Watford Star With Sarri A Big Fan

Watford winger Roberto Pereyra was the subject of interest from Chelsea, according to the Argentinian international’s agent.

Sergio Furlan has revealed that both Torino manager Walter Mazzarri and Blues manager Maurizio Sarri are fans of the 28-year-old:

“He scored a dozen goals in a calendar year, something he’d never done before, and we’re talking about a midfielder, not a striker.”

“He starts from the left and comes inside. The Coach is getting the best out of him in this position and he’s doing very well. Mazzarri likes him, but so does Sarri.”

Furlan also confirmed that both clubs tried to sign Pereyra very recently with the player keen on playing in European competitions:

“Did Mazzarri want him at Toro last summer? Yes, I can confirm that. There were talks, but the English team’s demands were considered excessive…Chelsea also tried, but without success. To Toro in the summer? It would amaze me if the Granata didn’t try again, but we must see Maxi’s desires, Watford’s plans and the offers that will arrive. He wants to go back to playing in Europe, possibly in the Champions League.”

The winger has been in good form so far this season, having scored six goals and provided two assists in 21 appearances.

Pereyra has spent the last two and a half seasons with the Hornets, having made the switch from Italian champions Juventus in 2016.

In recent months, his good performances have been rewarded with a return to the Argentina national side. He scored on his first appearance for three years in a 4-0 friendly win against Iraq back in October.

He has gone on to gain two more caps in friendlies against Brazil and Mexico.
