Nkunku signed a new contract with RB Leipzig back in June but it included a €60m (£53m) release clause which can be triggered at the end of the season.
Although there is no official agreement between the two clubs yet over a transfer, it does appear as if Chelsea will look to get a deal in place to sign the 24-year-old well in advance of next year.
Nkunku has had a good start to the season, having scored six goals n 11 appearances so far. He is coming off the back of a very successful campaign where he hit the back of the net 35 times and provided 20 assists.
