“Absolutely No Progress…” Matt Law Provides Concerning Update On Key Chelsea Star’s Future

Chelsea have made “no progress” in talks with Conor Gallagher over a new contract, according to the Daily Telegraph journalist Matt Law.

Speaking on the London is Blue podcast, Law said the Blues really need to get a move on if they want to keep the England international at Stamford Bridge:

“The club need to get on the contract issue and I only checked yesterday and there’s been absolutely no progress so far.”

Gallagher has started every single league game this season, with the midfielder a key player for manager Mauricio Pochettino.

However, the 23-year-old’s current deal expires in 2025 and, if he doesn’t put pen to paper on an extension by next summer, the club will be forced into selling him.

Gallagher has plenty of suitors

Tottenham made a concerted effort to sign the midfielder at the end of the summer transfer window but their approaches were knocked back by Chelsea.

West Ham also made a £40m bid for Gallagher back in July, while Newcastle have been keeping tabs on him for well over a year. He won’t be short of options if he does leave his current team.

He has recently expressed his desire to stay at Chelsea

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Gallagher spoke out about his contract situation, stating that he was confident that his future would be resolved:

“I’m sure that will get sorted out Everyone knows Chelsea is my club and I love playing for them. The fans are brilliant and I’m loving it right now. I’m sure it will get itself sorted out.”

Considering what happened with Mason Mount, though, fans know that there are no guarantees that Gallagher will remain with the Blues.

Negotiations can be fraught with difficulties and the fact that no progress has been made, despite his undoubted importance to the team, is rather concerning.
