“A Player They’ve Admired For A While” Journalist Claims Chelsea Are After A SECOND Wingback This Month

Chelsea retain an interest in Wolves winger Adama Traore and could try and hijack Tottenham’s attempts to sign the Spaniard during the January transfer window, according to Eurosport journalist Dean Jones.

The Blues are believed to be keen on bringing back Emerson from Lyon to strengthen their options on the left flank but Jones claims that manager Thomas Tuchel is looking to reinforce the right-hand side as well, with Traore under consideration:

“Adama Traore is a genuine target (for Tottenham), they’re trying to negotiate terms and a deal with Wolves right now. Chelsea are also interested in Adama Traore though, they haven’t gone as far along the road as Spurs have yet, but Chelsea, while their priority is at left-back, they also have issues on the right. Adama is a player they’ve admired for a while, but there’ll be some competition there for Tottenham even though Tottenham are reasonably confident they’ll conclude a deal for Traore.”

As Jones points out, Spurs remain the firm favourites for Traore but it is interesting to hear that Chelsea are still in the mix. The 25-year-old was first linked with a move to Stamford Bridge last summer, when he was considered as a cheaper alternative to Achraf Hakimi.

The London club ended up signing neither player but, with Reece James sidelined with injury, Tuchel has been forced into playing the likes of Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi out of position at wingback. Whether Chelsea will actually try and beat Tottenham to Traore’s signature this month, we shall have to wait and see.
