In light of Andre Schurrle and his transfer to Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen finally being completed, it got us thinking that may people may not know enough about the 22-year-old from Ludwigshaten, Germany.
Below is a list of ten things you need to know about the new Blues forward…
1 – Schurrle was born in Ludwigshafen, Rhineland-Palatinate to Louise and Joachim Schurrle on 6 November 1990.
2 – He started his career at local club Ludwigshafener SC, before signing a deal with Mainz in 2006. He spent three years playing for the club’s youth team.
3 – In August 2009, he made his Bundesliga debut for Mainz in a 2-2 draw with Bayer Leverkusen. A month later he scored his first career goal.
4 – In September 2010 Mainz announced that Schurrle agreed to a five-year deal with Bayer Leverkusen at the end of season. He made his Germany debut shortly afterwards. During that season with Mainz, he scored 15 goals.
5 – In two seasons with Bayer Leverkusen he scored 18 goals after playing in 65 matches.
6 – Played for Germany in Euro 2012 but did not score.
7 – Plays as a left winger and as a centre-forward.
8 – Known for his long-distance sprinting on the counter-attack, he is also considered by many as a “good finisher”.
9 – Schurrle joined Chelsea for an £18 million transfer fee.
10 – Schurrle will wear the No. 14 shirt.
