Chelsea centre-back Thiago Silva has been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month award for October.
The Brazilian veteran has been shortlisted along with the likes of Manchester City’s Kyle Walker, West Ham’s Pablo Fornals, Southampton’s Che Adams, Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish, Wolves’ Conor Coady and Tottenham pair Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.
After making a mistake on his debut against West Brom back in September, Silva has gone on to perform at a very high level, helping the Blues keep three clean sheets in four Premier League games last month. Fans on Twitter think the nomination is well deserved:

Quite right. Can’t think of a better central defender in the EPL at the moment.

I’ve enjoyed the ride on the Thiago train so far.

I knew from the word GO that Thiago was a solution. People might have won Man of the Match awards, but Thiago was exactly what we needed in defence. Good luck, big boy!

Not bad for someone who's past their prime ?

Some questioned whether manager Frank Lampard was wise to bring in a 35-year-old centre-half on a free transfer during the summer but, so far, the decision to snap him up has proven to be an inspired piece of business. Supporters will be hoping that the Brazilian international stays fit for what will be a long, gruelling season.
