Terry Questions Bakayoko Signing

Chelsea are known admirers of Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko. The Frenchman is linked with a huge move to Stamford Bridge after an impressive season at the city-state side, with the Blues fending off rival interest from Manchester United among others.

It is thought that a fee of over £40m will be enough to prise the holding midfielder away from Monaco, but Chelsea legend John Terry has appeared to put the transfer into question, saying that his former team already has a massive amount of talent within its ranks already.

The Premier League champions are well known for signing big-name youngsters, only to have them shipped out on loan for several years at a time. Chelsea‘s youth policy is constantly questioned because of this, more often than not the Blues will opt to field a big name instead of home-grown talent. With Terry spending 22 years at Chelsea and breaking through at such a young age, it makes you wonder if even he would have broken into Conte’s side these days.

Monaco have a whole host of massive names that it seems most European clubs want to sign. Bakayoko isn’t the only man Chelsea might have a keen eye on, Kylian Mbappe, Thomas Lemar and Fabinho are just another 3 players who are attracting big attention. However, after signing for Aston Villa from Chelsea yesterday, Terry discussed the subject of Chelsea’s transfer policy this summer and seemed to indicate that he believed the club would be better off going for the youth within their team – instead of spending millions.

Terry told the media: “Monaco have a couple of youngsters and everybody is saying how good they are.”

“Believe me, we have got better players at Chelsea.”

The ex-England and Chelsea captain, who won everything there is to win at Chelsea, admitted that he joined Villa because he couldn’t face playing against his former side. However, the 36-year-old did admit that he has ambitions of managing Chelsea in the future.

“Me and Lamps [Frank Lampard] have had those conversations.” said Terry about managing Chelsea.
