4 Managers Who Could Be Hired By Chelsea – Including Former PSG, Barca And Liverpool Bosses

Pochettino

On Sunday, April 2, Chelsea sacked now-former boss Graham Potter after a 2-0 home defeat against Unai Emery’s Aston Villa. It had been on the cards for some time – Potter’s time with the Blues was something of a disaster.

Ultimately, such a monumental job proved to be too much for the former Brighton boss. With that being said, Chelsea will now be in the hunt for a more suitable candidate for the role.

There are a number of Premier League clubs now looking for a new manager in Leicester City, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur as well as the Blues

But who will take on the mantle? We’ve put together a brief list of four unattached managers who could potentially take the job – would you like to see any of these superstar head coaches at the Chelsea helm?

Mauricio Pochettino

This one would be controversial if it comes to fruition – former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino is among the names in the running for the Chelsea managerial post.

Previously at PSG, the Argentinian suffered a largely underwhelming run with the Parisians. A positive stint at Chelsea would be a great way for him to get his career back on track.

However, Chelsea will want instant success with their new head coach – not to mention trophies. During his career, Pochettino has won just two major trophies – the Ligue 1 title and the French Cup.

Brendan Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers was sacked by Leicester City just hours before Potter was relieved of his duties. Could his appointment at Chelsea be written in the stars?

Rodgers would likely be seen as an underwhelming appointment by Blues fans even if he was the Chelsea youth coach in the mid 2000’s – but he’s not a bad manager by any stretch of the imagination. He achieved great success at Celtic and enjoyed a good run at Liverpool, too where he likely would have won the title had it not been for Steven Gerrard’s slip.

With higher profile names in the running, Rodgers isn’t likely to be appointed as Potter’s successor – but he should not be ruled out at this stage, either.

Luis Enrique

Former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique is currently a free agent, after he resigned as Spain manager following La Roja’s uninspiring World Cup campaign in Qatar.

He has never managed in the Premier League – but that hasn’t stopped the likes of Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola from building success at their respective clubs.

He may not have managed in the Premier League, but Enrique has nevertheless found success at the highest level of the game – he won three La Liga titles, two Copa Del Reys and one Champions League with Barcelona.

Julian Nagelsmann

Currently, Julian Nagelsmann is the heavy favourite to take the vacant Chelsea post – after a great run at Bayern Munich that ended with a terribly harsh dismissal, he would be an excellent choice.

He is somewhat inexperienced – his managerial career began in 2016 and he has only won one major trophy since then (the Bundesliga title in 2022).

Nevertheless, Nagelsmann has proven he can hang with even the most seasoned of coaches. He uses his youth to his advantage – with it, he brings a fresh perspective and new ideas to an ever-evolving game but he was apparently not popular with the players at Bayern which contributed to the end of his tenure there.
