Chelsea fans have taken to Twitter to praise Olivier Giroud after his performance in the 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace yesterday afternoon.
Antonio Conte’s side produced a solid performance to earn a much needed three points at Stamford Bridge, surviving a late Palace comeback to get a first win in four.
Willian opened the scoring for the hosts on 25 minutes – his effort passing through a host of Palace players into the bottom corner past the unsighted Wayne Hennessey.
And Chelsea made it 2-0 only seven minutes later, when David Zappacosta’s cut-back bounced off defender Martin Kelly and into his own net.
Conte’s side could have had James Tomkins been on-hand to produce a superb goal-saving tackle to stop Willian claiming his second of the afternoon, nor had the woodwork not denied Olivier Giroud early in the second half.
The Frenchman was mightily unfortunate not to have found the net on the day to claim his first Premier League goal for the Blues, however Antonio Conte was full of praise for the former Arsenal star’s performance.
“We created a lot of chances to score a lot of goals today. We conceded 2-1 at the end and there’s a bit of pressure, but did well to keep the ball high up the pitch way from our box.” said Conte.
“Olivier was unlucky. Two clear chances to score – he hit the post and another was a deflection by the defender – but his commitment was good for the team and we have to continue in this way.”
And the Chelsea fans agree. No goal, no problem for Giroud. The Stamford Bridge faithful were delighted with his display regardless …
Giroud should have had a hat-trick today…still better than Morata though #cfc

Today I saw Chelsea play with a striker that didn't fall down every 5 seconds over nothing, I need to see more of Giroud he's perfect for us and his link up play is amazing.

Giroud was brilliant today. Unlucky to not get a goal or assist. Fantastic game overall.
