Zabaleta Stunned That Costa Did Not Get Red Card!

It was a tactical masterclass from Jose Mourinho once again as his side stifled City’s attacks and were a threat on the counter-attack. Things got better for Chelsea as Zabaleta was dismissed for a second bookable offence after an altercation with striker Diego Costa in the second half.

Chelsea soon took advantage of being a man up and Schurrle scored on the counter to put the visitors 1-0 up. However, the Blues were pegged back to 1-1 when their former player Frank Lampard – the all-time Chelsea top goalscorer – scored in trademark fashion.

However, Argentina international Zabaleta believes Chelsea should never have gone ahead since Costa, who was involved in the build-up of their goal, should have also seen red alongside him. The 29-year-old brought down Costa to earn a second booking, but believes the fiery striker’s angry reaction should have also seen him go down the tunnel, according to Daily Mail.

Zabaleta tweeted a picture of Costa holding his throat during their altercation and wrote, “I would like to apologise to everyone for my red card today. However after seeing this image I can’t believe that Diego Costa remained on the pitch.”
