Will Terry Accept One Year Deal At Stamford Bridge?

It was horrible to see John Terry possibly end his Chelsea career with a red card given in extra time during a 3-2 loss against Sunderland. It was not a good season for the club overall but this club legend who missed important games due to a thigh muscle injury still showed he has much to offer the Premier League. Terry is only the 3rd man who has played over 700 games for the Blues. If not for the entire club’s poor form and if not for the injury, Terry would have challenged last year’s season record of 49 appearances. If you analyze his games from the 2015-2016 season you can see he is among the few who kept last year’s mind set. Terry is captain for a reason and he needs to teach others how to love the club just as much as he does. Back in winter when he knew there was less of a chance of extending his deal, you could see the pain in his eyes. For some strange reason, just as it happened with Lampard, Terry was not given back then hope that he could end his career for the only club he ever played. Unfortunately, big clubs have the tendency to be reluctant to sign players over 30 to new deals. Chelsea’s fans protested in favor of Terry’s stay and apparently it may have influenced change.

According to SkySports, JT has been given the chance to stay around for one more year. Even though it might not be a complete success as news report he might be offered a different position within the club (not one that involves him actually playing football). Here is what Terry had to say: “Thanks to everyone for the kind wishes. The contract extension the club has offered me is a different role and I hope everyone will understand I want to take the time to consider it carefully before making a decision.”

Honestly, it would be great to see Terry play for next season and help in a coaching role too. His spirit should be passed on to youngsters, and what better moment to do so other than next year when several of Chelsea’s youth team members are expected to try moving to the big leagues. It would be the perfect agreement as Terry would get to end his career at Stamford Bridge as he should and the club would get to keep around one of the best defenders the world has ever seen.

After seeing Terry at the end of game on pitch traditional celebrations with the players and their families it certainly looked as though an emotional Terry might have played his last game for the Blues. All will be revealed but we hope the Captain is retained in a playing role as he still seems to have a lot to give to the Blues if he is allowed but we have to place our faith in Antonio Conte.
