Will Hazard Become Chelsea’s Playmaker?

There was a lot of talk regarding the position in which Eden Hazard was used by his club for the past couple of years. Apparently, even though the Belgium international scored a great number of goals playing as a left-winger, he is much more comfortable as a playmaker. His wish was best expressed in the below statements:

“I like to play as a No. 10”

“I think I have more freedom offensively. For Belgium, we have full-backs who run hard and create a lot of space, which is good and I like to play there.”

“I don’t know if I will play there for Chelsea. You need to ask the manager! I play on the left-hand side and I try to do the best I can.”

“It’s true I like to play as a 10. Sometimes at Chelsea we don’t play with system with a No. 10, too.”

“I don’t think Chelsea wants to change just for me [to play] as a 10. I did well in the past as a left winger and for now, I am trying to get back to that best again” said Hazard according to Metro.

His desire is on the way to being fulfilled by Antonio Conte who, according to rumors, is looking to sign a new left-winger. If this were to happen, Hazard could be assigned the number 10 role permanently as he was today in the 3-0 win over Leicester City.

According to The Guardian, Conte’s first choice left winger could be none other than Hazard’s fellow Belgian Yannick Carrasco. The 23-year-old has impressed the audiences with his performances during the past couple of games. His speed and skill, combined with a surprising maturity for such a young age, recommend him for a transfer to Stamford Bridge. Even though Atletico state that they will not sell any players anytime soon, there is a big chance that Chelsea’s fans will have the opportunity to see Carrasco in London in the near future.

He is now valued at around £21.25million which is a bit much given the fact that he only made his presence felt during the last 12 months. Unfortunately, his starting price is currently £35million as stated in his contract/buy-out clause. Not sure if he is worth that much especially when it is well-known how difficult it is for players to adapt to the Premier League. On the other hand, Belgium internationals seem to feel very at home in the UK. They adapt very quickly and have a good attitude towards the game.
