Will Chelsea Reconsider Keeping Terry After Zouma’s Horrific Injury?

Bad news came today from Chelsea’s medical staff who announced that Kurt Zouma will be out for at least 6 months. Seeing the Frenchman’s leg bent from the knee in such an unnatural way had everyone expecting the worst for 21-year-old who is going to miss the rest of the season as well as what should have been his first European Championship. According to ESPN the Frenchman will undergo surgery by the end of the week after he was diagnosed with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament. That means a standard 6 months of recovery at best. It`s one of the worst injuries in football and it could have Zouma benched for more than 6 months if things do not go as planned. Luckily he is very young and he has the time to recover properly without pushing it. Hopefully he will be back stronger just as he said on his Twitter account.

It`s unfortunate that Zouma picked up this type of injury during this time of year. He will miss the chance to establish himself as a definite first pick for the starting eleven. He was supposed to become Terry’s permanent replacement for when the Captain says goodbye to Stamford Bridge. Zouma’s injury could trigger some changes in the club’s strategy. They were already thinking about extending JT’s contract for one more year given his great form and the fact that he wants to retire from the only team he ever played for. Even though Matt Miazga was signed this winter, he does not look ready to take on the Premier League, not as a first pick at least. It`s either a new transfer or a contract extension. Honestly, extending Terry’s contract for one more year would be a win-win situation. It will keep the captain close to the squad and allow Zouma to return when he is fully recovered. There is of course the option of using Ivanovic as a center back as well but that`s left to be seen, depending on how things develop. One thing is clear, Zouma will be missing the start of next season as well and even after that, there is a chance he will need more time to be get fit mentally.
