Which 2 Of These 4 Players Will Chelsea Sign?

Conte is determined to fill any gaps Chelsea might have had in the past. Even though the Blues have one of the most extensive lots in the Premier League, it appears that they are still in need of a defender and a keeper. According to the Telegraph, there are 4 options the club are looking at:

  1. Kalidou Koulibaly – Chelsea will simply not give up on this Napoli defender who is seen as the perfect permanent replacement for John Terry. Unfortunately the Italian side is trying to get as much as possible out of this deal and have rejected several offers from the Londoners. At this point in time, rumors have it that Napoli are asking for a record £60 million which is outrageous by any standards. No defender is worth that much. Chelsea reportedly is willing to meet half way with Aurelio De Laurentiis and pay around £35million to secure the 25-year-old center-back.
  2. Victor Lindelof – Benfica’s defender has grown immensely in the past year and is seen as one of the most promising young defenders out there. He is apparently a backup for Koulibaly whose club is driving a hard bargain. Lindelof is under contract with Benfica until 2020 and is valued at £10.20million. Given the fact that he signed with the Portuguese club just a year back that amount might need to be doubled in order for the club’s owners to allow him to leave so soon. He seems like he would be worth the effort though.

If rumors are true, one of these players will be wearing the Blues’ shirt by the end of August. Currently there are no defensive problems but it is always good to have a solid bench to give you peace of mind.

Conte is also interested in signing a new keeper as there are currently just two options to choose from. Even though there are clubs who go through an entire season with just two stoppers, there’s no point in taking a risk. Here are the two players Conte is interested in:

  1. Diego Lopez – Real Madrid’s former keeper who is now with AC Milan is still under contract until 2018. His market value had dropped to only 10% of what he was worth when leaving the Spanish Giants. He is not the first choice anymore for AC Milan and is turning 35 meaning a move to Chelsea might be his last chance to play for a big club. Apparently Conte wants him for his strong character more than for his skill. He could have a good influence on the locker room.
  2. Eduardo – Currently with Dinamo Zagreb, this 33-year-old has already announced his arrival at Stamford Bridge. Actually one of his teammates stated that he will be joining the Blues but no official statement was made yet. He is willing to join Chelsea and be Conte’s 3rd choice for the keeper position.
