Van Gaal Responds To Mourinho’s Shaw Criticism

Southampton’s Luke Shaw was a target for Premier League giants Chelsea and Man United but the left-back chose to join the Red Devils ahead of the Blues in a £27 million deal. And in true Mourinho fashion, the Special One recently claimed that Shaw’s exorbitant £120,000 a week wage demands would have ‘killed’ the club.

According to the Daily Mail, Van Gaal, who gave Mourinho his first coaching opportunity at Barca in 1997, is reportedly angry at Mourinho’s jibes and claimed he will talk to the Portuguese in person about the matter. On being asked about Mourinho’s comments, he said, “I don’t think I have to discuss things with the media. It is better to discuss it with Jose.”

Mourinho was confident of signing the defender as Shaw is a boyhood Chelsea fan and settled in the south of England with Southampton. However, the allure of guaranteed first-team football at Old Trafford convinced the teenager to snub Mourinho, who has chosen to sign Atletico Madrid’ Felipe Luis instead.
