Former England captain, John Terry crucially scored in the third minute of stoppage time to ensure Chelsea stayed at the top of the standings for another weekend. With Manchester City and Arsenal both winning, the Blues still hold a narrow one point lead over the Gunners, with City a further three behind, in the race for the title.

Everton are a different and a more offensive side under Roberto Martinez this season and were good value for their draw, until Terry popped up at the death to score a vital goal from Frank Lampard’s free-kick.

Terry admitted that they weren’t at their best as he praised Everton’s performance at Stamford Bridge. According to TEAMtalk, he said, “It wasn’t our best performance, but we’ll certainly take it. Maybe a draw was a fair result. They played quite well. You have to give them credit. Since Martinez has come in they’ve looked a whole new side. But we came away with three points. It was important we did that.”

The defender also believes that the Blues need to keep their momentum for the upcoming busy run of fixtures, including a Champions League double-header against Galatasaray. He said, “It’s important for us now to kick on, especially with a busy period. Hopefully that’s the cobwebs gone and we can kick on again.”
