Talented Winger Leaves Chelsea

Chelsea winger Reece Mitchell has decided to leave Stamford Bridge for Chesterfield as he attempts to get regular first team football.

The 20-year-old winger’s contract expired this summer and has left Chelsea as a result. It is understood that Mitchell was offered a new one year deal at Chelsea, however this was not deemed good enough for the youngster who has decided to move to League One club Chesterfield.

For those who know of Mitchell, he had been a regular for the Blues’ Under-21 side – however he was unable to break into the first team and had very limited opportunities for first team football.

He told the Spireites’ website:

“I had a really good season in the Under-21s season at Chelsea and I was offered another year but I wanted to play some first-team football and get some league experience.”

“So when Chesterfield showed interest, I was really happy and was raring to go.”

“I couldn’t say ‘no’ to Chesterfield.”

“I’m really happy to be here and I’m excited about the challenge.”

“I know they’re a club pushing for promotion.”

“Last season was not the best season, but the season before that, they got to the play-offs and did really well.”

“The manager here likes to play young players, has a good philosophy and the upcoming season looks promising.”

Mitchell becomes Chesterfield’s 5th summer signing and looks set to seriously contend for a first team place in the side.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish Reece all the best for the future.
