Stamford Bridge Could Have Been The Place For Gerrard’s Retirement

Gerrard reminded Mourinho what a great player he lost back in 2005. The English international was apparently Chelsea’s main target when the Portuguese manager first came to London. According to Sky Sports, missing out on Gerrard’s talent is one of the Special One’s biggest let downs in terms of transfers. He was reminded of that after Liverpool pushed Chelsea towards a very important result at Anfield by the 34 year old who even hit the post during the game. The Capital One match ended in a draw and could have been won by Liverpool who dominated much of the time and were driven on by Gerrard who was once again everywhere on the pitch.

During the pre-match interviews, Mourinho admitted to have fantasized about creating the perfect midfield section composed out of Lampard, Makelele and Gerrard. To be fair, it sounds like it would have been impossible to handle such a trio which was almost completed if not for Gerrard’s love for Liverpool. It is unfortunate that now he will be leaving the club to join LA Galaxy and he will no longer be seen in the Premier League.

Even if Gerrard refused to come to Stamford Bridge, it seems that he managed to get Mourinho’s full respect. His decision to stick with the club he loves is not something you see every day especially if you consider the fact that Chelsea were throwing money at players during Mourinho’s first mandate.
