Signs Suggest Conte Is About To Sign A Top Striker

Rumors have been linking Chelsea to another new striker all throughout the summer despite Batshuayi’s transfer. Most said Remy will be the one leaving as he was searching for more on-pitch time. Clubs from Turkey have shown interest but nothing was made official. Seeing Bertrand Traore play, it was looking like he would replace Remy and become Conte’s 3rd choice. According to Metro, Chelsea’s new manager will be going a different way. Even though the young striker has performed well during friendly matches, he will be sent off on a year-long loan to Ajax where he is very likely to become the top pick for the attacking line. That leaves Costa, Batshuayi and Remy. The French striker has really faded out even since Mourinho was around, with little news about him or his intentions. It would make no sense in selling Remy in order to bring in someone like Carlos Bacca for example or even Chicharito Hernandez. While both are good, they are not that far away from Traore or Remy.

Seeing Bertrand Traore leave and also Remy unlikely to make the cut, you could only expect someone big like Edinson Cavani, Aubameyang, Lukaku, Morata, Lacazette, Icardi or even Benteke. Out of all these names only two look doable and likely to represent a massive upgrade for the attack: Lacazette and Icardi.

Cavani is finally getting the chance to be the number one striker at PSG now that Zlatan left. Even with Jese being signed, he will still be the main man up front so getting him to move to Stamford Bridge would probably be an impossible challenge.

Aubameyang would have moved already if that were the plan. He seems set on staying with Dortmund where he will now get to play while being backed up by Schurrle, Gotze and Reus.

Lukaku is way too expensive and Morata was purchased by Real Madrid with the purpose of playing him more often rather than to include him in a swap deal. If the Spanish side were planning on using the striker as a trading chip, they would have done it by now.

Benteke would probably be an easy catch as he is willing to leave Liverpool. He is not willing to risk being a substitute again which is what will happen if he moves to Stamford Bridge so he looks like an unlikely option.

That leaves Lacazette and Icardi. Both are young, promising and highly rated plus Chelsea will likely pay what it takes to buy them unlike the tight-fisted Gunners. Having either of them around would allow Conte to play with two strikers at once without worrying about the bench or about losing a true attacker for the rest of the season. It remains to be seen if Traore’s departure really means a new striker is about to land in London but it sure looks highly possible.
