Should Chelsea Pay £34m For Aymeric Laporte?

Even though names like Hummels and Varane have been closely linked to Chelsea over the past few months, Metro suggests Mourinho’s true target is 20 year old Aymeric Laporte. The Frenchman who is now under contract with Athletic Bilbao has been deemed one of Europe’s most promising young talents. Even though he is very young he has already made almost 100 appearances for the Basque country based side who would make a huge profit off of the center back if they do decide to sell. With a buy-out clause of £34million he might be a bit difficult to sell though. Despite having all the financial resources to pay the Spaniards, Chelsea will have to consider their options.

Laporte is an investment for the future. He looks like a safe investment as well considering the fact that he has no injury history and that he has managed to become a team regular at such an early age. Regardless of the fact that Athletic are now somewhere in the middle of the Spanish League table, it is still something to make so many appearances at such a high level before turning 20.

If Chelsea do decide to go after Laporte they will get some help from Adidas who already work with the Frenchman who signed a boot contract with the German company. It is even rumored that they would pay some of the money needed to secure the youngster’s signature. This could be the only way Chelsea would consider the opportunity of picking Laporte over Hummels who is valued somewhere within the same ballpark as the young defender.
