Mourinho Predicts Transfer Market Collapse

Chelsea’s manager seems convinced that the transfer market is not headed in a good direction. The discrepancy between large clubs and smaller clubs is increasing from all perspectives and has already taken some casualties. Teams like Ajax, Dortmund or Roma are no longer capable of keeping up with giants like Chelsea, Bayern, Barcelona or PSG. This leaves only a select group of names fighting for Champions League glory or fighting for important domestic trophies.

According to Metro, Mourinho thinks that this discrepancy will have even more negative effects on football as prices are expected to explode this summer. Small teams are asking for a lot of money for their stand-out players and big teams like Manchester or Real have little care for money apparently. Being able to buy any player no matter the price will also affect youth teams as investments in academies tend to go down.

Fortunately Chelsea is one of those teams that have made smart moves and have not been buying irresponsibly since the Special One came to Stamford Bridge. With the addition of one or two players the Blues will have a complete squad and will focus their attention on cementing a strong, long-lasting group which according to the Portuguese boss, is the key to a successful team in the long-term.

Mourinho also pointed out that Chelsea are already ahead with their project and this will force direct adversaries to try catching up by spending a lot of money. Even though that sounds a bit wide of the mark, he might be right as there are no other teams with the same structure as the Blues. Bayern will be required to go through some massive changes, just as Barcelona, PSG, City and Real. Several of the big teams are between generations and will either need to sign established new players (who may still need some time to adjust) or bring in youngsters who for sure will need time to acclimatise and settle personally. Either way Chelsea have a massive advantage which could earn them the Champions League a couple of times over the next few years and will keep them as serious contenders for the big domestic prizes.
