Mourinho Gives Stones Update

Chelsea’s £20 million bid for Everton centre back John Stones may well have been rejected last week, however Mourinho has recently spoken out and insisted that the Toffees can expect plenty more bids until they declare the player is not for sale.

When questioned on the 21-year-old’s potential move to Chelsea, Mourinho admitted he’d like to have some more youthful defensive options.

“We have two who are more than 30 years old. We would like to have two less than 25 years old, which would give us the next 10 years. But as you can imagine it’s no something urgent, it is not something we are desperate for.”

Whilst Everton manager Roberto Martinez has insisted his club aren’t a ‘selling club’, the Spaniard is yet to admit Stones is 100% not for sale, something Mourinho believes is key to the transfer.

“The transfer window is open, when it is open every club and every player is open to bids.”

“Bids come for our players, we make bids for other players and the process can be so simple.”

“I would advise Roberto to do the same thing as I do. If I get an offer for one of my players and I don’t want to accept any offer I say I don’t accept any offer, so he can make it very, very easy.”

“If today I receive a bid for (Cesc) Fabregas in two minutes I will say I don’t accept any bid, game over, that’s it.”

“If we made a bid it is because we like the player, we don’t make bids for players we don’t like, but we respect Everton and respect every club that has a player and it is up to them – everything is in their hands.”

It looks likely that Chelsea will make a fresh bid for Stones, reportedly in the region of £26 million, now it’s up to Everton to decide how serious they are about the defender.
