Mourinho: Fabregas & Costa Key To Success This Season

Jose Mourinho has suggested new signings Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa will be key to Chelsea’s success this season, and that the former will add a new dimension to the current midfield at Stamford Bridge, according to a recent report in the Daily Mail.

Chelsea are one of the only clubs in the Barclays Premier League that have bought as much as they have sold, and the London based outfit have adhered to the UEFA Financial Fair Play rules this time around. The Blues had been warned last season for spending beyond their finances, but unlike Manchester City and Paris Saint Germain, they were let off by the judging panel. This has primarily been possible because of David Luiz’s £50 million move to Paris, letting Roman Abramovich spend that money right back on the transfer market. The acquisitions of Costa and Fabregas were touted as experienced signings rather than going for youth. With the likes of Eden Hazard in the squad, Chelsea needed experience in the midfield after the departure of Frank Lampard to the United States.

The Chelsea midfield consisted of players like Nemanja Matic and Ramires who are traditional box-to-box midfielders without adding any extra flair and play making abilities. In this mix, Fabregas is a valuable addition who will control the midfield provide pin-point passes to the strikers and wingers. Costa, on the other hand, will assist in adding to the goals tally.
