Mourinho Admits Cracks In Chelsea Squad

Jose Mourinho has confessed their defeat against Bradford City in the fourth round of the FA Cup was precisely the reason the former Real Madrid boss has stuck to more or less the same starting eleven since the start of the campaign in August last year, according to the Independent.

Chelsea were playing at Stamford Bridge but there were nine changes made to the first team that played against Liverpool at Anfield in the Capital One cup first leg.. That match ended in a draw leaving many of the first team players worn out. Mourinho made wholesome changes in a fixture he described would be a ‘disgrace’ if the London based outfit were beaten. That is exactly what happened, and to Mourinho’s frustration, the defeat came after the team took a 2-0 lead at home. Mohamed Salah, a player who has been tipped to be a first team player in the future could not get on the scoresheet, and had to be substituted in the second half.

Mourinho is fully aware of the financial fair-play rules by UEFA, which essentially mean Chelsea cannot add to the squad unless they sell players first. Andre Schurrle has been strongly linked with a move to Wolfsburg, but with less than a week left in the January transfer window, it will be difficult for Chelsea to arrange for an equal or better replacement.
