The Spaniard was loaned to Italian side AC Milan last summer in a two-year loan deal in a bid to reinvigorate his faltering career. However, after scoring a solitary goal in ten league outings, Milan are ready to pull the plug and cancel his loan arrangement.

The Serie A side are currently paying £3 million a year in wages to 30-year-old Torres, and want better value for money.

The former Liverpool forward could be searching for a new club come January after the Mirror reported that he will be offered for free in the winter transfer window. Torres cost Chelsea £50 million roughly four years ago but will be sold for nothing if he can find a new club.

Atletico Madrid have already turned down the chance to sign their former captain and Torres could possibly be without a club in January. Mourinho has two strikers to cover for his number one forward Diego Costa, and it is unsure whether he will play for Chelsea again.
