Messi Speaks About His Barca Future In Zurich

Speaking at the Ballon D’or ceremony in Zurich on Monday evening, Lionel Messi did not do much to put to rest the rumors surrounding his future. When asked for comment on the talk of him moving clubs, he said that he wants to finish his career at Barcelona but then went on to sort of instantly contradict this and give Chelsea fans some hope – he said that he does not know where he will be playing next year because of the nature of football and how things can change overnight. As the Daily Mail reported, the Barca forward admitted, ‘I don’t know where I’ll be next year’.

To further muddy the waters and keep us guessing, Messi also proceeded to rubbish reports that his father has been in contact with Chelsea and Manchester City. He then went on and added that reports suggesting that he is too powerful at Barca are way off base and he firmly denied that he controls the dressing room of the Catalan giants as some have suggested.

Messi was selected in the FIFA World XI but came second in the Ballon d’Or ceremony where his arch rival, Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo won the award for the 2nd year running.

This story of Messi moving clubs continues to rumble on and it will be interesting to see if indeed the Argentinian superstar gives anymore credence to the belief that he wants out of Barca. It still seems highly unlikely that he will give up his place in sunny Spain for the inclement weather that the Barclays Premier League so often offers but you never know which makes this story so damn interesting…
