Mata Staying At Chelsea?

Juan Mata has reiterated his love for Chelsea and rubbished any reports linking him with a return to his former club Real Madrid, after speculation in the media that the Spaniard was not part of Jose Mourinho’s master plan at Stamford Bridge.

There has been intense speculation ever since Mourinho’s arrival at the club, and while much of it focused on the striker department, there were reports that Mata’s former club, Madrid, were keen to have him back at the Santiago Bernabeu, after the skillful midfielder showed impressive form last season. Mata was integral in the former interim boss Rafa Benitez’s success domestically, and in Europe, with the club winning the UEFA Europa League.

Looking at his style of play, Mata is quick and skillful on the ball, and needs an equally quick team mate for him to showcase his talent. And that is exactly what happened when Eden Hazard arrived at the club from French side Lille. Hazard has a similar style on the ball, and combined with Mata instantly, which saw Chelsea gather pace in their attack. Defensive midfielder Ramires has also adapted a quick style of play, and this trio weas often seen play one-twos for the side.

Incidentally, the Spaniard began his career at Madrid, where he was part of their youth academy from 2003 to 2006. The left-footer was recognized as a top talent, but due to the senior side being full of stars who could not be replaced at the time, Mata was given a place in the Real Madrid B side, where he was given his first professional contract. The player’s golden period came at Valencia, where he played 129 games, scoring 33 goals, before making the move to Stamford Bridge.

Madrid have confirmed Carlo Ancelotti as their new manager, who arrives from Paris St. Germain where he won the Ligue 1. The Spanish giants are close on signing Isco from Malaga, and reportedly had Mata on their wish list.

According to SkySports, Mata has iterated his commitment to the Blues, and showed excitement ahead of the new season.

Mata said, “The last time I spoke with the club they told me I was a very important player to them and transmitted confidence in me.”

“I’m sure Mourinho will want to see everyone first and then decide what he wants to do.”

“You have to know people first before you can evaluate them. After the holidays and after I’ve rested, I’ll meet the new boss and I’m sure things will go well.”
