Mario Mandzukic Not The Only Juventus Player On Conte’s Wanted List

Swiss international Stephan Lichtsteiner is probably one of the most underrated players seen in Europe over the past decade. This guy is quite unique having the physique of a center-back and the technical abilities and the speed of a winger. He can shoot, dribble, pass and run circles around many players who are years younger than him. He can play as both a right-back and as a right-winger. He can tackle, he can cross and he can run 90 minutes at a constant pace. Even if he turned 32 this year, he is still more than capable of playing a full season. He is very similar to John Terry in terms of fitness meaning he will be able to play at least for two more years at a very high level. Aside from all of this, he is also quite fit and has only suffered two blows when it comes to injuries. He had a heart condition which was successfully treated last September and a thigh muscle strain which since 2013 hasn’t caused him any more problems. Stephan Lichtsteiner is valued at around £10million mostly due to his age. If Chelsea play their cards right they might be able to get him for much less than that.

According to the Telegraph, with Dani Alves taking ownership over the right flank, and with Cuadrado’s desire to return to Turin, Conte might have quite the bargain in his hands. The question is: Is Stephan Lichtsteiner more useful than Cuadrado? Honestly the answer is leaning more towards no than yes. While being an extraordinary player, Lichtsteiner is not the man to take Chelsea towards the title. His fellow compatriot Ricardo Rodriguez is though. If rumors are true and the left-back is close to Stamford Bridge, there is no point in selling Cuadrado. Conte will just need to move Azpilicueta to his rightful spot and use Ivanovic as a back-up who is quite similar to Lichtsteiner.

On the downside, Chelsea might end up getting nothing for Cuadrado’s return to Juventus – nothing meaning no visible benefits. Money is not something the Blues worry about so we can leave that aside when looking at what good a transfer might do. With just a couple of days left out of the transfer window, hopefully, at least one more transfer will be completed. In a perfect world, by the end of August Chelsea would have transferred a right-back, a left-back a center-back and a striker. In the real world, there’s hope at least one of these moves will be completed.
