Luiz Confirms Chelsea Contract Snub

David Luiz has confirmed that he turned down a new contract offer at Chelsea to seal his move to Paris Saint Germain, after being asked about the reason for his move to the French champions, according to the Daily Mail.

Chelsea have been dominant in the transfer market ever since Roman Abramovich took over the club in the early 2000s, but this summer brought a difficult situation as PSG came with a heavy offer for Luiz. The defender had not been as solid at the back for the Blues, but his presence was consistent in the squad. John Terry and Gary Cahill have formed a formidable partnership in defence, and the English duo are the engine of the back four. This left little room for Luiz, who had also been placed in midfield at times to accommodate his aggression on the pitch. In Paris, Luiz is a regular starter, and the squad is challenging for equally top honours. While the league is still in it’s early stages, the Champions League may not be impossible to win for the club, with players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic leading the attack.

Luiz left Chelsea in the summer transfer window for a fee of £50 million, and has since been successful in his spell at the Parc de Princes. He represented Luis Felipe Scolari’s Brazilian national squad at the World Cup and was one of the key contributors even though he turned in several dodgy performances.
