Brendan Rodgers, who was Jose Mourinho’s assistant at Chelsea in the Portuguese’s first spell, has earmarked goalkeeper Petr Cech as the man to replace Simon Mignolet at Anfield.

The Reds are in woeful form and have suffered some bad results in all competitions . Their defence is a major concern for Rodgers and the poor form of Mignolet has convinced the former Swansea manager to look for an alternative in January.

The Merseyside club will look to sign Cech for £7 million in January, according to Metro. However, it is still unclear whether Mourinho will permit the Czech Republic international to move to a rival Premiership club.
