Lampard Declares Kante Is The Best Midfielder In The World

Chelsea are into the final four of the FA Cup and are now preparing themselves for a trip to Wembley to face Tottenham in the semi-final at the end of April having beaten ten-man Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.

Former manager Jose Mourinho has now returned to his old stomping ground twice this season, with the score currently standing a 5-0 over both games, with Antonio Conte’s men having seen off United 4-0 in the Premier League earlier in the season.

Whilst a sublime team performance sank the visitors back in October, one man stood head and shoulders above any other in west London on Monday, in a metaphorical sense anyway.

Summer signing N’Golo Kante was simply untouchable against Mourinho and bagged a rare goal from range to make the difference as the Blues looked to break down a highly defensive side, having been reduced to ten men with just 35 minutes on the clock when Ander Herrera was shown a second yellow.

The former Leicester City man, who has won more Premier League points than any player, or club, since the start of last season, was tireless and covered every blade as the Blues battled their way into the semi-finals.

The reaction from the wider footballing world to his performance has been sensational, with Chelsea legend Frank Lampard hailing him as the best midfielder in the world. Which is quite something considering his opposite number in the Manchester United midfield was the world’s most expensive player, Paul Pogba.

There is a comparison, then, to be had between the pair. The Frenchman, although enjoying another outstanding season, and looking well on the way to a player of the season award from either his fellow players or the Football Writers, does not appear to receive the same level of criticism that his United counterpart does.

That may be down to the respective fees paid by the two clubs over the summer, some of it certainly is, however, the Premier League champion projects a much more sterile image on and off the pitch than Pogba.

In the Kante camp there are no dabs, no weekly haircut changes and no changing room dances being hammered out in every direction.

Instead, the lasting image of the little Frenchman is that of a hardworking and happy midfielder who is at the top of his game.
With performances such as Monday’s nights, the midfielder’s popularity can only continue to grow.
