John Terry Future Still Up In The Air It Seems

It looks like rumors regarding the transfer of a new center-back are piling up after reportedly no progress has been made on Terry’s contract extension. When Mourinho was around, the former England international stated that his Chelsea career will end with this season. After Hiddink took over, hope grew as some said there is still hope that the captain will end his career at Stamford Bridge. Apparently it will be mostly the club’s decision and if things stay the same, the Blues will be in need of a new center-back. They have Cahill, but other than that there’s no real option to provide the same level of defending as Terry. Zouma is great but, unfortunately, he is out until October. Suffering an injury such as his could be a career damaging scenario so there’s no certainty he will come back as strong as he was before. There’s also Miazga but he is young and has no experience with European football. Coming from MLS to the Premier League is a tough change to handle especially at such a young age. Ivanovic, who you would normally play as a full-back but can also handle the center, is rumored to leave so again, there’s a huge gap left down the middle of the defense.

Chelsea will surely need to transfer someone and that someone might just be VfB Stuttgart’s 23-year-old defender Antonio Rudiger. Currently on loan with AS Roma, the German International has made 35 appearances this season but will return to the Bundesliga at the end of June. Rudiger fits the Chelsea profile and is pretty similar in style to former Brazilian star Maicon. Even though standing at 1,91m, the youngster is very fast and has great skill. His speed could go perfectly with Cahill’s sliding tackles and aggressive defending style.

According to the Daily Express, Rudiger could cost Chelsea around £14million which is decent for such a promising player. Currently there’s no interest from other clubs when it comes to Stuttgart’s center-back so bringing him to London should not be an issue. Aside from him Conte could also count on Michael Hector who spent this season playing for Reading. It will be risky though to put your trust in so many unexperienced defenders when we all know, experience is mandatory when it comes to handling strikers like Aguero, Kane or Rooney.
