The Zenit St. Petersburg striker was considered to be one of the world’s deadliest strikers during his time at Porto between 2008 and 2012. He scored 57 goals in 91 appearances in his last two seasons in Portugal and, surprisingly, chose to move to the Russian outfit in a €60 million deal in September 2012.

There was considerable interest in the 28-year-old’s services and he has confirmed that Chelsea were one of the clubs that wanted to sign him. However, he has spilled the beans as to why he didn’t go to Stamford Bridge.

According to Metro, he said, “I know some clubs bring a lot of attention and hype on the ones playing for them, but my priority is being happy, and being happy means getting to be regularly on the pitch for me.”

“Joining Chelsea or Real Madrid would make no sense for me, since I’d risk to be benched a lot there, and I know there will always be clubs interested in signing me.”
