How Will Chelsea Line Up For The Rest Of The Season

Chelsea seem to have made all the right moves this summer. Conte managed to complete important transfers which fill in all the gaps and give the Blues the chance to take on the ongoing season with full confidence that they can win trophies and turn last season into a bad memory. With a total of about £114million spent,  the Italian boss will now have several options to choose from when it comes to the starting eleven.

First let us have a look at this year’s departures as there are just a few players who would have challenged the regulars for their spot in the team.

  1. Mohamed Salah – left for Roma after playing only 19 games for Chelsea. While he struggled at the beginning of his arrival, the time spent in Serie A on loan might have helped him improve and actually have a shot at the first team. He chose to stay with Roma on a permanent basis and signed a 3 year deal on the 1st of July.
  2. Juan Cuadrado – although announced to be staying with Chelsea, the Columbian is now as good as transferred to Juventus. The two clubs agreed on a 3 year loan deal with the option to buy at the end of the current contract. Out of all the departures, he would have had the biggest chances to make constant appearances in this season’s Premier League. Apparently he feels better in Serie A where he does have an increased chance to play every week.
  3. Abdul Rahman Baba – left for Schalke on loan despite knowing that Chelsea are looking for a left-back. He is there for a year but it is unlikely for him to return as a team regular.
  4. Bertrand Traore – his departure is quite unexpected given the fact that Chelsea now have just two strikers. He would have been a good player to have around just in case Costa or Batshuayi need a rest.

Other Permanent Departures: Papy Djilobodji, Stipe Perica, Marko Marin, Falcao, Alexandre Pato, Marco Amelia.

Now let’s have a look at the players who cost Chelsea £114million:

  1. Michy Batshuayi – Moved from Marseille and already proved he is a well-made investment. He seems to adapt really fast to the Premier League (as most Belgium players do) and also seems well integrated in Chelsea’s lot. He can play alongside Costa but he can also handle the attack by himself.
  2. N’Golo Kante – Moved from PL champions Leicester and just as Bathsuayi, seems to adapt really fast to Chelsea’s playing style. He’s an incredibly hard worker who is expected to grow immensely over the next couple of years.
  3. Marcos Alonso – The second most unexpected transfer Chelsea made this summer, this left-back is set to slowly push Ivanovic out of the team How, you ask? By playing on the left flank and allowing Azpilicueta to return on the right.
  4. Eduardo – Moved from Dinamo Zagreb in order to become Chelsea’s third option. It’s a smart move as the Blues need their youngsters to get time on the pitch rather than to watch Courtois and Begovic.
  5. David Luiz – Resigning him is probably one of the biggest surprises of the summer. No one expected this up until yesterday when a rumor made the news. The Brazilian changed his Timeline background and was also confirmed on Chelsea’s official site. He is rumored to have cost the Blues over half of what they got for him at £30m from PSG so a great piece of business.

Now, with all the important changes mentioned above let’s have a look at how the team might line up for the games to come:
