Fabregas Never Wanted Arsenal Return! – Mourinho

The transfer of Fabregas from Barca to Chelsea was arguably the most shocking transfer of the current transfer window.

After spending 8 long years with Arsenal, the 27-year-old decided to go back to his hometown club of Barcelona in the summer of 2011. He has repeatedly voiced his love and affection for the Gunners faithful and even claimed in 2011 that he would never ever sign for another English club.

His time at Barcelona hasn’t exactly been fulfilling despite winning five titles with the Catalan club. New boss Luis Enrique deemed him surplus to requirements this summer and Fabregas started looking at alternatives.

Arsenal had the first option to re-sign him but did not go down that route due to a plethora of attacking midfielders in their squad. Instead, Fabregas joined Arsenal’s London rivals Chelsea, who paid Barcelona £30 million for his services.

Jose Mourinho has now revealed that it took him just 20 minutes to convince Fabregas to join the Blues since he did not want to return to Arsenal, according to the BBC.

He said, “I spoke with him for 20 minutes. I think he really wanted to come to us. Arsenal had an option where they could interfere, but I think he was not open to that. He was very much in our direction, so it was an easy job for me.”
