Fabregas Close To Beating Henry’s Record

Cesc Fabregas is on the way to breaking Thierry Henry’s record for the most number of assists for a Barclays Premier League season, after helping Chelsea defeat West Bromwich Albion at Stamford Bridge, according to the Daily Mail.

Fabregas was a cult hero for Arsenal, as Arsene Wenger brought the player out of the Barcelona academy during his youth career in 2003. From thereon, his presence in the Arsenal midfield became more important with every campaign. Ultimately, the midfielder was given the captain’s armband, and Fabregas was key to nearly every move orchestrated by the team. However, due to a lack of silverware, Fabregas looked to leave the club, and in 2011, he got the chance to move to the Camp Nou and join a team that many regarded as the best club side to have ever played.

At Chelsea, Fabregas has been given the crucial role of a playmaker by Jose Mourinho, and the Spaniard has exploited the goalscoring prowess of Diego Costa this season with his compatriot being the second highest goalscorer in the league, one behind Sergio Aguero.

Fabregas has totalled 10 assists for the season, with Gylfi Sigurdsson following closely. Henry provided 20 assists in the 2002/03 season, and Fabregas is halfway through with more than half the season to go.

Chelsea have now gone 15 games unbeaten this season, and have stretched their lead to 6 points at the top.
