Courtois’s Injury To Impact FIFA Regulations

Courtois’s Injury To Impact FIFA Regulations

FIFA have a lot to think of before the 2022 World Cup which was awarded to Qatar. With player safety being a priority among all football associations, some modifications could take effect as early as later on this season. Chelsea’s Mark Schwarzer is one of the many who proposed changes regarding the way competitions take place. He insists that playing in places like Doha could be dangerous to footballers who are not used to handling such heat.

FIFA also have to find a way to improve the way medical staff assesses injuries. This issue was raised after Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois was diagnosed in a rush after suffering a head injury. The Belgian was thought fit to play after a clash with Alexis Sanchez but proved unable to continue after a few minutes.

This is not the first time the Blues have to deal with complicated head injuries. Petr Cech also suffered a dreadful blow to the head which could have cost him his career. FIFA plan on extending the time in which medical staffs can address injuries which can turn out to be very dangerous. According to the Daily Mail, misdiagnosing is on top of the list as far as priority goes.

Fortunately Courtois has recovered and he is ready to perform. Even so, his accident has set off an alarm with FIFA who are set to make a series of changes to improve the security of the players’ health. Hopefully the changes will be implemented as soon as possible.
